The relentless online attack on Bhutanese websites has not subsided. A shared DrukNet server with the IP address of 202.144.128.218 was recently under attack. I used a service called sameip.org to check which websites are hosted on this server (see below). The service returned a list of 20 websites, including BOB, T-Bank, DPT, Druk Holdings and Investments (DHI), Bhutan Film Festival, Royal Thimphu College, and Bhutan Media Foundation.
Afterword
ThimphuTech was the first technology blog in Bhutan. We started writing it in 2009, just as broadband and mobile internet started to take off. (Although internet in Bhutan was launched in 1999, it was either super-slow or super-expensive, and was only used by a selected few).
In the blog, we wrote about technology and food, but also about plenty of other stuff. The blog became popular and influential in Bhutan. A companion bi-weekly column -- Ask Boaz -- was published for many years in the Kuensel, Bhutan's national newspaper. (The complete Kuensel columns are available as an ebook, Blogging with Dragons).
We stopped updating the blog when we left Bhutan in 2014, but the information within the posts can still prove useful, and thus we decided to keep it online.
We thank all our readers.
Tashi Delek,
Boaz & Galit.

Withdrawing cash with MasterCard from BOB ATMs
I just received the following news regarding the ability to withdraw local currency using a MasterCard:
I haven't found any mention about this on the BOB website, so hopefully the information is correct.
This is good news for tourists and other credit-card holders, especially if they need local currency during non-banking hours.Kindly be informed that the Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) of Bank of Bhutan can now be used by holders of MasterCard (both credit or debit) to withdraw local currency (Ngultrum). Maximum of Nu. 18,000.00 can be withdrawn per usage and there is no limitation on transaction per day (except the limitation given by the Master Card issuance agency). There will be a charge of USD 2.50 – USD 3.00 per usage.

BOB catching up
Yesterday's Kuensel had an article about Bank of Bhutan (BoB) moving ahead with more electronic banking. In particular, the CEO Kinga Tshering announced that:
- Account holders will be able to withdraw cash not only from their own branch, but also from the branches in Thimphu, Phuentsholing and Wangduephodrang
- "After May 10, customers will be issued ATM cards within two days after they put in an application."
- "SMS and internet banking too will soon be introduced."
