Afterword

ThimphuTech was the first technology blog in Bhutan. We started writing it in 2009, just as broadband and mobile internet started to take off. (Although internet in Bhutan was launched in 1999, it was either super-slow or super-expensive, and was only used by a selected few).

In the blog, we wrote about technology and food, but also about plenty of other stuff. The blog became popular and influential in Bhutan. A companion bi-weekly column -- Ask Boaz -- was published for many years in the Kuensel, Bhutan's national newspaper. (The complete Kuensel columns are available as an ebook, Blogging with Dragons).

We stopped updating the blog when we left Bhutan in 2014, but the information within the posts can still prove useful, and thus we decided to keep it online.

We thank all our readers.

"Always there for you" - is it?

Until recently, Bhutan Telecom's downtown One Stop Shop provided service in a location convenient to many businesses during convenient hours (noon to early evening daily except Tues). From our experience, it seemed to always be full of customers, taking advantage of the convenience rather than going to the main BT office in Chubachu.

Unfortunately, the convenience is over: the new One Stop Shop has not only relocated to a more remote location (in the parking lot of the
Centennial Farmers Market), but has also limited opening hours to Thurs-Sun 9-5. To comfort us, a large sign reads: "Always There for You".

Why the change? We've heard different speculations. High rent? Inconvenient hours for BT employees? Insufficient parking? Please cast your vote in ThimphTech's new poll -- if there is strong support for the "old" shop, maybe BT will reconsider...

  2. Hi Shmueli,

First of all your blog is quite informative and it is really nice to go through your profile and update ourselves what is happening around us that we usually ignore in our day to day life.
Having said that I want you to suggest me for my two important questions as below:

So,please suggest me some good sites that I can visit and prepare for my last minute exam. And give me some tips how to prepare effectively for the exam.

2.I am very much interested in Network Security and Hacking. So, please tell me how to start about it.(I am working as a Netwotk Guy.Also suggest me few good sites and books to read for security and hacking and also some course that I can take up.

Looking forward to your invaluable suggestions

  3. 1. Regarding CCNA: This is probably the wrong blog for that, but try searching Google for "CCNA online tutorial" or something of that ilk.
    2. To learn about Internet security, a good starting point is Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_security). Read the article, check the "See also" section, and follow some of the References. Also, you might want to look for some books on the topic. Here are some books that are available in India on the topic:

You can ask a local book vendor (e.g., DSB) to get any of these books for you.
