Optical Fiber Link Fixed

It seems that the fiber link problem announced 10 days ago by Bhutan Telecom was fixed: A few days ago I ran a speed test against a server in the U.S. and got a download speed of about 1.7mbps.

On the BT website, I found no announcement regarding the restoration. Looking at previous Bhutan Telecom news, it seems that only breakages are reported. It would also be useful to know when services are restored. An RSS feed for the BT updates would be a useful addition.

Can you please explain how you ran the speed test? Do you need an account on a server in the US to perform the test?

To check the local speed - i.e., within Bhutan - the following link is useful

To check international speed, here is a useful site in the U.S. It lets you measure to speed to a few cities in the US. I usually pick New York or Washington DC.

checking speed of leased line

hello, boaz the speed test you mentioned was for the broadband, how do you check the speed for a lease line speed of 256kbps, can you do that from a client computer, i feel that checking the speed from a client computer will only give the speed of internet for that particular client.So how do we go about, one way could be taking the lease line directly and then checking the speed.any suggestions anyone.

Checking the speed of a leased line follows basically the same procedure as a DSL line. The idea is to make sure that there will be no network activity other than the speed-checking application. So turn off all computers except one which will be used for checking the speed. Shut down all the applications on that computer except a single web browser window, from which you can go to the speed-checking page. Just like blood pressure, the speed can change during the day, so run the test a few times. Good luck!

www.speedtest.net would analyze your internet speed exactly, so try it but be reminded that the result would be best if your close all the application other than the web browser where speedtest.net only, is open, remember only speedtest.net. This tester will test your speed as per the server that you select. Its shown as Pyramid in yellow color. You may select one and click on it to start. YOU WILL NEED TO INSTALL FLASH FOR THE BROWSER TO WORK. GET IT FREE. All the best. This was my result using DSL BB of Druknet.
